About the authors

 

  • Lorenzo Brualla is Professor at the Medizinische Fakultät of the Universität Duisburg-Essen and researcher of the Westdeutsches Protonentherapiezentrum Essen, in Germany. His current research activities are related with the simulation of complex radiotherapy and dosimetry problems, both with conventional and proton beams. He is the author of the penEasyLinac code and of several variance-reduction techniques. He has also worked in the field of quantum Monte Carlo in condensed matter physics for the study of low temperature systems. Lorenzo Brualla can be reached here.   • Miguel Rodriguez is the chief medical physicist at the Centro Médico Paitilla and adjunct faculty member at the Instituto de Investigaciones Científicas y de Alta Tecnología (INDICASAT-AIP), both in Panama. Most of his research work is on the use of Monte Carlo techniques for the simulation of radiation sources, radiation detectors and phantoms. He is the author of the PenLinac code.   • Josep Sempau is associate professor at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya in Barcelona, Spain. His main research topics are the development of Monte Carlo algorithms for the simulation of radiation transport and their application in the field of medical physics. He has also made contributions to the study of environmental radioactivity and its correlation with meteorological variables.
